This Halloween, Dr. Smith asks patients to remember that consuming candy in moderation is fine, but it’s vital to keep spooky seasonal splurging under control.
Dr. Smith emphasizes preventing health-related problems before they occur. This includes promoting what’s known as the chiropractic lifestyle, a way of life that focuses on preventing health problems, rather than merely masking symptoms with medication.
Candy is full of sugars, fats and empty calories. That’s why it’s important to ration your child’s Halloween sweets. Take this opportunity to explain some basic nutrition guidelines to your child; emphasize that you don’t want him or her to suffer tummy aches or ruin his or her appetite for nutritious food. And never use food or candy as a reward for good behaviour, as it may establish a psychological pattern that can lead to eating disorders.
Halloween, with its emphasis on skeletons, is a good time to introduce your child to chiropractic if you haven’t done so already. Have a safe Halloween! Dr. Barbara Smith
